Heavy rain in Doi Luang, Chiang Rai caused flash floods from Khun Mae Bong and Huai Chang Lot streams, flooding roads and residential areas in Chok Chai Subdistrict. The provincial governor ordered ongoing monitoring and urgent aid to affected villagers.
On 4 August 2026, a reporter reported that at 08:00, following heavy rain throughout the early hours, water from Khun Mae Bong and Huai Chang Lot flooded low-lying areas, submerging the Doi Luang–Wiang Chiang Rung road near Ban Mae Riap, Village 2, Chok Chai Subdistrict, Doi Luang District, as well as the Chok Chai intersection. This caused difficult travel conditions while local homes and farmland suffered from rising water levels.
By 10:40, water levels had slightly increased, with floodwaters expected to pass through Pong Noi Subdistrict, Thung Kwang and Mae Bong Tai villages, as well as Ban Nong Dan in Chok Chai Subdistrict, Doi Luang District, before draining into the Kok River. Relevant agencies continue close monitoring to assess impacts and issue warnings to residents in risk areas.
Mr. Chucheep Pongchai, Chiang Rai provincial governor, ordered the Chiang Rai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, together with Doi Luang District, local administrative organizations, village heads, and relevant agencies, to survey damage on site and expedite assistance to affected residents. Efforts include facilitating travel, ensuring safety in risk zones, and closely tracking water conditions to prepare for further rain or changes in the situation.
Chiang Rai province urges residents living in low-lying and riverside areas to closely follow official announcements. In case of continued rain or rising water, they should move belongings to higher ground and avoid traveling through areas with strong water currents to ensure safety of life and property.
