Border Patrol Police Commander Urgently Orders Personnel to Assist Flooded Nan Residents with 24-Hour Monitoring

The Border Patrol Police Commander urgently ordered volunteer police disaster relief units to promptly assist residents affected by flooding in Pua District, Nan Province, and set up 24-hour monitoring.

On 19 Aug 2026 GMT+7, reports from Pua District, Nan Province, indicated continuous heavy rain causing flash floods, waterlogging, road collapses, landslides, and fallen trees, damaging homes, roads, and multiple travel routes. The flooding particularly impacted Pua, Phu Phiang, and Sanitsuk districts, where heavy rains led to flash floods and road blockages; authorities are rushing to provide aid.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Rungroj Thakoonpunyasiri, Border Patrol Police Commander, directed Region 3 Border Patrol Police and volunteer officers to expedite assistance to affected residents and maintain 24-hour surveillance, especially in landslide-prone areas, to closely monitor the situation and enable immediate, safe evacuation if needed.

Meanwhile, the Northern Meteorological Center issued a weather alert for Nan Province at 07:00 GMT+7, reporting that radar detected light to moderate rain covering all districts of Nan and neighboring provinces such as Phrae, Phayao, Lampang, Lamphun, and Chiang Rai, with rain systems moving southwest.

Residents are advised to exercise increased caution when driving due to slippery roads and reduced visibility. Those in low-lying and hillside areas should monitor accumulated rainfall closely, as it may cause flooding or flash floods.

The Nan Municipality Office reported heavy to very heavy rainfall up to 200 millimeters in several parts of Nan Province, notably Pua, Sanitsuk, and Mae Charim districts since midnight, causing flash floods in the northern part of the Yao (East) and Wa rivers, with water levels rising.

Nan Municipality urges communities within its jurisdiction, especially those previously flooded in 2006 and 2024, to move belongings above flood levels, prepare to relocate vehicles to safe areas, and arrange evacuation plans for vulnerable groups to safe locations.
