
Phayao experienced heavy rain throughout the night, causing flash floods that inundated homes. Authorities ordered the closure of two schools and quickly relocated residents to safe areas.
On 19 August 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that Phayao province had continuous rain from last night until this morning, leading to flash floods that submerged homes, roads, and schools within the Ngim subdistrict municipality, Pong district, Phayao province.
Water levels from various tributary streams and combined flash floods continued to rise, overflowing and flooding homes, roads, public utilities, farmland, orchards, and schools. Teachers and Ngim subdistrict municipal officials mobilized to evacuate students and closed two schools affected by flooding: Ban Khwan Kao Ngao and Ban Baeng schools, where flash floods persisted.
Officials from Pong district administration, Ngim subdistrict municipality, and village leaders helped residents move belongings to higher ground and relocated people living in flood-prone lowlands to temporary safe shelters. Preparations were made to cut off electricity to prevent electric shock hazards caused by flooding.
Due to continuous rain overnight and throughout the day, flooding occurred across the Ngim subdistrict municipality, which has 19 villages in total. Currently, nine villages within the Ngim municipality are fully flooded.
Ngim subdistrict municipality mayor Kanyanat Sutthawong stated that heavy rain from last night until this morning caused water levels in various streams within the municipality to rise, flooding houses, roads, and schools across nine villages in the Ngim municipality.
Ngim subdistrict municipality, together with Sergeant Major Kriangkrai Chaiboonruang, head of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, municipal officials, village chiefs, and Pong district administrative officers, have been assisting residents affected by the flash floods. They have also evacuated students from the two schools forced to close due to flooding and continue to support households affected by rising waters. This assistance continues amid ongoing heavy rain, with public communications urging residents to monitor and remain cautious of the continuing weather conditions.
