Officials are closely monitoring the water situation. "Wat Taiyom Canal" After overflowing and flooding temples and residents' homes, authorities have advised moving valuables to higher, safe places.
At 10:00 a.m. on 23 Aug 2026, Mr. Worawong Pongsabut, district chief of Bang Krathum, along with Mr. Peeraphon Jiamchan, chief security officer, volunteers from Bang Krathum District 9, local leaders, and community heads from Noen Kum subdistrict, visited Wat Noen Kum in Bang Krathum District to closely monitor the water situation.
Heavy water discharge from Ban Chomphu Station in Noen Maprang District has caused a large volume of floodwater to flow through Bang Krathum via Wat Taiyom-Noen Kum Canal. This water moves downstream to Pa Makab subdistrict, Mueang Phichit District, Phichit Province, into the Nan River. Meanwhile, water at Ban Ratcha Chang Khwan and Taphan Hin stations in Phichit is rising rapidly, impeding drainage from Wat Taiyom-Noen Kum Canal into the Nan River.
As a result, flooding has occurred from Noen Kum Market to Road 1114 in front of Wat Noen Kum, Bang Krathum District, Phitsanulok. Along with Noen Kum Municipality and local officials, they are monitoring the water situation while issuing public warnings about heavy to very heavy rainfall and accumulated rain, which may cause flash floods. They are also alerting residents to disease risks and dangerous animals carried by floodwaters, regularly updating water levels, and advising relocation of bedridden patients and elderly to safety, as well as moving valuables to higher ground.
Meanwhile, Phitsanulok Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office summarized the flood monitoring situation at 9:00 a.m. on 23 Aug 2026. On 22 Aug, water volume near Ban Ratcha Chang Khwan Station in Bang Krathum District rapidly increased, slowing drainage through Wat Taiyom-Noen Kum Canal. Around 8:00 p.m., floodwaters from Chomphu subdistrict, Noen Maprang District, surged into Wat Taiyom and Noen Kum subdistricts.
This affected 14 households in Wat Taiyom and Noen Kum subdistricts. Additionally, three districts—Bang Rakam, Nakhon Thai, and Wang Thong—are under flood watch due to high water volumes that may overflow riverbanks. Authorities urge close monitoring of water levels, especially along riverbanks and flood-prone areas.
Regarding water levels in Phitsanulok's main rivers and tributaries, overall conditions remain normal and below bank levels. The four monitoring stations report: Yom River basin at Y16 station, water level 6.77 m, 0.53 m below bank, rising trend; Yom River at Y64, 5.89 m, 0.51 m below bank, rising; Wang Thong basin at N24A, 9.04 m, 2.46 m below bank, falling; and Kwae Noi basin at N36, 7.47 m, 1.03 m below bank, falling. Weather monitoring indicates reduced rain, with a 60% chance of thunderstorms and localized heavy rain.
