More Than 10 Injured as Employee Shuttle Bus Overturns on Road to Kiu Lom Dam, Lampang

More than 10 people were injured when an employee shuttle bus lost control and overturned near the entrance road to Kiu Lom Dam in Lampang Province. The driver claimed the road was slippery. Police are urgently investigating the facts.

At 19:25 on 27 Aug 2016, Police Lieutenant Colonel Nopparat Wongsuta, Investigating Officer at Ban Sadet Police Station, Mueang District, Lampang Province, was informed of a shuttle bus from a private company overturning beside the factory with multiple injuries. He immediately proceeded to the scene with rescue units from Surasak Montri Camp Hospital, Lampang Hospital, Ban Sadet Subdistrict Rescue, Boonnak Subdistrict Rescue, Sawang Nakhon Lampang Rescue, Lampang Rescue Association, Ton Thong Chai Rescue Association, and nearby rescue teams.

At the scene, a shuttle bus registered in Ratchaburi province, used to transport employees of a private company, was found overturned on the entrance road to Kiu Lom Dam, Ban Sadet Subdistrict, Mueang District, Lampang Province. Inside the bus were about 22 passengers including the driver.

Initially, 10 people were injured: 2 women with yellow-level injuries, 8 with general injuries, and 12 with minor injuries who declined hospital treatment. Rescuers urgently transported most of the injured, mostly Myanmar migrant workers, to Lampang Hospital for care.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Boonrit, 50, the bus driver, was transporting employees back when the bus overturned about 100 meters after leaving the factory gate, causing the injuries. The driver claimed slippery roads caused the vehicle to lose control and overturn. However, officials noted he appeared intoxicated and took him for an alcohol test. The exact cause remains under investigation.
