Flash floods surged through Sob Moei village in Mae Hong Son Province, washing away bridges and damaging roads, causing severe hardship for residents. Efforts are underway to move livestock out of pens and to clear debris blocking the water flow.
On 23 Sep 2026 GMT+7, Mrs. Pongpipat Meebenjamas, chief of the Mae Sam Laep Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Sob Moei District, Mae Hong Son Province, led rescue teams along with local authorities to survey Siwadee village, Moo 3, Mae Sam Laep Subdistrict, following heavy rain since 20:30 on 22 Sep. The heavy rain caused flash floods that inundated Siwadee village, damaging public utilities and residents’ property. The powerful floodwaters severely damaged homes; the bridges between villages and to the local school were washed away. Walls and roads suffered long stretches of erosion damage, and large amounts of wood debris and grass clumps accumulated, blocking waterways. At the time, residents were busy evacuating livestock from pens and helping remove debris around the bridges to clear the waterway.
Mr. Pongpipat, chief of the Mae Sam Laep Subdistrict Administrative Organization, said this flash flood was more severe than previous events. Almost all roads, bridges, and village infrastructure were damaged, and many residents lost property such as motorcycles, household goods, and livestock to the floodwaters. Officials are currently assessing the damage to provide necessary assistance.
There have been no initial reports of injuries. After the waters recede, the Mae Hong Son Provincial Administrative Organization will deploy heavy machinery to reopen transportation routes, remove wood debris blocking waterways, and work to restore the village to normal conditions. Assistance will also be provided to Siwadee residents affected by the severe flash flooding.
