A 25-year-old man fell into a 40-meter-deep pit at Pa Wai Waterfall in Tak Province and died. The woman who came with him did not dare to jump and survived. It is believed they were opposed by their families because they loved someone with the same surname.
At 4:00 p.m. on 6 October 2026, reporters received a report from the Provincial Police Radio Center that a good Samaritan had notified them of a person who had fallen into a deep pit at Pa Wai Waterfall, Village No. 3, Kiri Rat Subdistrict, Phop Phra District, Tak Province, at around 10:30 a.m. A woman was reported to be waiting above.
Police from Phop Phra Police Station coordinated with Kiri Rat Rescue and Relief teams to reach the scene for assistance. Upon arrival, they found a pit in the middle of the waterfall more than 40 meters deep. Assessing the situation, it exceeded their capacity and rescue equipment was insufficient, so they requested additional help from nearby rescue units and informed multiple local disaster prevention agencies to join the rescue planning.
The rescue teams then executed the plan to ensure maximum safety by lowering ropes down the pit. At the bottom, they found the body of Mr. Kanokpol (surname withheld) aged 25 from Phop Phra District, Tak Province, deceased, lying on his back, wearing a blue short-sleeved T-shirt and blue long sweatpants. His right wrist was bent unnaturally, and his body was smeared with mud and dirt and appeared pale. Officials tied his body with ropes and brought him up, taking over six hours.
Interviews with local residents revealed that the deceased had previously worked in Bangkok and was in a relationship with a woman sharing the same surname. They loved each other deeply, but their families and relatives opposed their relationship. They decided to jump into the Pa Wai waterfall pit together, but upon arrival, only the man jumped while the woman hesitated and did not jump.
Lieutenant Suwan Suwanta, the investigating officer from Phop Phra Police Station, along with rescue personnel, delivered the deceased’s body to Phop Phra Hospital for autopsy. They will contact the family to arrange for religious funeral rites.
