Tragic: 69-Year-Old Man with Hemorrhoids Abandoned in Banana Grove, Found Lying in Urine

A heartbreaking case: a 69-year-old man suffering from hemorrhoids was abandoned in a banana grove, lying soaked in urine and blood in Mae Rim district, Chiang Mai province. Villagers reported the situation to the village headman of Bo Pu, who coordinated with relevant agencies for assistance.

According to a Facebook user, Tonmai Leela, the village headman of Bo Pu, Village 1, Don Kaew subdistrict, Mae Rim district, Chiang Mai, he posted seeking relatives of a 69-year-old man after villagers reported yesterday evening (20 Oct 2026) that a hospital vehicle had brought and abandoned the man. Upon receiving the report, the headman and his team visited the site and found a man wearing a black T-shirt and light denim shorts weakly sitting against a tree, with a hospital medicine bag placed in front of him.

The headman questioned the man and posted a video on social media to help find his relatives. The story was widely shared online, prompting people to provide a mosquito net, food, and water to alleviate the man's distress temporarily.

This morning (21 Oct 2026), the headman assisted the 69-year-old man, later identified as Mr. Kamchan Kamwongfan, whose ID shows he resides in Doi Lo district, Chiang Mai.

Mrs. Siriphen Panyaperm, headman of Bo Pu Village 1, Don Kaew subdistrict, Mae Rim district, along with Don Kaew municipality staff, are currently assessing and assisting Mr. Kamchan. This morning, he was found with urine-soaked clothes, lying in his own urine with flies around the mosquito net where he lay.

Don Kaew municipality coordinated with Don Kaew rescue services to clean and change the man's diapers before taking him back to the hospital. Given his hemorrhoid condition and the blood-soaked state, if left untreated, his wounds could become infected without proper care.

Mrs. Siriphen, headman of Bo Pu Village 1, said that yesterday evening she was alerted by villagers about the abandoned sick elderly man. She quickly came to provide initial aid and contacted relevant agencies to urgently assist this morning. Locals who saw the news sympathized and purchased diapers, drinking water, and donated money to help the man, who had only 40 baht on him.

Upon questioning Mr. Kamchan, it was learned that he originally lived in Mae Sa Luang but later moved to live with relatives in Doi Lo district, and subsequently resided in this abandoned garden. On 13 Sep 2026, he was treated for hemorrhoids at a hospital and was discharged yesterday, after which villagers found him as shown in the video.

She noted that the man is currently unable to care for himself and could die if left unattended. He has no money, no home, and no family to care for him. Therefore, she coordinated with relevant agencies to urgently provide care and take him for further treatment. Meanwhile, Don Kaew municipality is working with Chiang Mai’s Social Development and Human Security Office and other agencies to arrange long-term care for him.
