Is this even allowed? A 28-year-old man, claiming hatred toward Myanmar and Tai Yai people, punched the eye socket of a fried chicken vendor and fled. Police arrested him at his home, finding a clearly written sign stating "Hate Myanmar".
On 23 Oct 2026, police from Doi Lo Police Station arrested Mr. Patchara, known as "Ball," 28, at his home in Pa Sang District, Lamphun Province. Authorities seized clothing and a motorcycle used during the incident after he was sought online for assaulting a fried chicken vendor who was injured.
The incident occurred on the morning of 19 Oct 2026, when the suspect rode a motorcycle to park in front of a convenience store at Pak Thang Charoen, Doi Lo Subdistrict, Doi Lo District, Chiang Mai Province. He then approached and punched the left eye socket of Mrs. Kia Sae Lee, 51, the fried chicken vendor, causing swelling, before fleeing on his motorcycle.
After the incident, the victim filed a complaint and posted CCTV footage on social media to warn others and help identify the dangerous individual. The Doi Lo investigation team tracked the suspect's movements and arrested him that morning (23 Oct 2026).
Mr. Patchara confessed to holding personal bias against Myanmar and Tai Yai people. He has a clearly displayed hateful sign outside his home. He often rode around Lamphun and Chiang Mai provinces, especially Pa Sang and Wiang Nong Long Districts in Lamphun and Doi Lo District in Chiang Mai. Upon seeing the victim, he believed she was Myanmar or Tai Yai.
He also stated that two months ago, he had shouted insults at people there, and on 18 Oct, he drove a vehicle to collide with a shop as reconnaissance before returning to assault the victim the next day.
Authorities initially charged him with "assaulting another person" and took him for drug testing, which was negative. He is being detained pending legal proceedings.
