Clashes continue along the Thai-Cambodian border in Surin Province, though less frequently than usual. Meanwhile, reports confirm the body of Private Phanuphat has been found, awaiting careful retrieval amid fears it may be a trap to lure an attack.
On 18 Dec 2025 GMT+7, reporters covered the border situation in Surin Province, especially around Prasat Ta Kwai and Hill 350, where the heaviest clashes have occurred in recent days due to Cambodia's efforts to reclaim territory.
At 06:20, Thai artillery resumed firing against Cambodia, though less frequently than before. The situation will be monitored again later in the morning, as forces are believed to be planning and preparing.
Meanwhile, at the border in Kab Choeng District, Surin Province, especially near Chong Chom, there has been no gunfire and the area remains quiet. Last night, the local volunteer defense team near the Chong Chom border market observed about five mysterious drones, believed to be Cambodian, flying with clearly flashing lights. The team managed to record video footage.
Reporters added that two Thai soldiers died during fighting at Hill 350: Sergeant Major Samreng Khlangprakon from the 3rd Infantry Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, originally from Prakhon Chai District, Buri Ram Province; and Private Phanuphat Saosa from the same unit, originally from Phu Sing District, Sisaket Province. Their bodies have not yet been recovered.
Recently, the body of Private Phanuphat Saosa was found at Hill 350 in the combat area after Cambodian forces seized weapons. Thai troops must exercise extreme caution in retrieving the body, as it could be a Cambodian ruse—placing the body to lure forces into an ambush. Careful planning is required. The body of Sergeant Major Samreng Khlangprakon remains missing and is still being searched for.
Regarding refugees at various shelters in Surin Province, related agencies and volunteers have been providing assistance in all aspects, especially focusing on mental health to reduce stress and tension.
Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
