On 20 December 2025, the Facebook page ofthe 2nd Army Regionposted images with a statement announcing their success in securing and establishing control over 'Hill 350,' a strategic location near Ta Kwai Castle in Phanom Dong Rak district, Surin province, following fierce clashes with Cambodian forces.
Lieutenant General Veerayut Raksin, 2nd Army Region Commander, revealed that the operation was conducted under joint command with Major General Sompop Pharawet, Commander of the Suranaree Task Force. He emphasized that every step was carried out carefully, thoroughly, and required maximum caution.
The critical reason was that the Cambodian side violated the Ottawa Treaty by secretly planting numerous landmines throughout the battlefield, necessitating the highest safety measures for troop movements and area clearance.
Honoring the brave soldiers’ hearts
However, this victory came at a great cost. Sergeant Major Samroeng Klangprakhon and Private Phanupat Saosa, both from Company Oub, Regiment 23, Battalion 3, sacrificed their lives while serving as a covering fire team, steadfastly holding the line to allow their comrades to retreat safely until their last breath.
The incident occurred on 16 December 2025 at 10:10 AM during the mission to assault the target 'Hill 350,' where the opposition continuously used supporting and direct targeting weapons.
The 2nd Army Region Commander praised these national heroes, stating, "Their sacrifice exemplifies what it means to be professional soldiers who stand firm for Thailand until their final breath."
Currently, the bodies of the two heroes are being transported down to lower terrain under maximum security measures due to ongoing risks from landmines and improvised explosive devices.
The victory is not just about reclaiming territory but affirms that Thai sovereignty is defended by those willing to protect it with their lives.
Sergeant Major Samroeng Klangprakhon and Private Phanupat Saosa, both from Regiment 23, Battalion 3, will have their names etched into the history of the Royal Thai Army and remain forever part of the Thai land.
