Heavy Clashes Erupt Along Thai-Cambodian Border Before Ceasefire F-16s Conduct Early Morning Strikes to Block Cambodian Reinforcements

Before the ceasefire, multiple clashes occurred along the Thai-Cambodian border in both Region 1 and Region 2. Thailand used heavy weaponry to intercept Cambodian reinforcements, while F-16 jets conducted early morning strikes.

On 27 Dec 2025 GMT+7, reporters covering the Thai-Cambodian border situation said that since the previous night (26 Dec), fighting has continued. In Surin province, authorities warned residents in high-risk border areas to strictly avoid entry due to potential heavy weapon fire from opposing forces before today's ceasefire signing (GBC), which could impact military bases and civilian homes.

At 21:00 last night, social media circulated CCTV footage showing Cambodia moving troops and heavy weapons close to the border, prompting Thai forces to fire back to intercept.

Then at 21:22, Thai security forces moved heavy weapons and ammunition into the Poipet area of Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo province, intending to strike Poipet, known as a scammer hub and Cambodian base, after detecting Cambodian troop movements near the border.

The 1st Army Region, through the Burapha Task Force, reported detecting Cambodian military movements in Poipet, a strategic and key stronghold area. They observed the establishment of military fortifications, preparation of support weapons, and use of the area as a storage site for military equipment.

Security sources said relevant agencies are closely monitoring and assessing the situation, deploying Thai troops to the area as well to target Cambodian military objectives.

The 1st Army Region confirmed that all actions will remain within the framework of safeguarding national sovereignty and security, prioritizing public order and civilian safety. Reports indicate continuous Thai counterfire against Cambodia in Khok Sung district, Sa Kaeo province.

At 22:40 in Kantharalak district, Sisaket province, reporters observed heavy clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border. Cambodia used artillery, heavy machine guns, and BM-21 rocket launchers against Thai troops, while Thai forces replied with howitzer fire intermittently. Fighting continued at the front lines with Cambodia persistently attacking Thai military bases.

Through the night until early morning today, intense fighting persisted along the Thai-Cambodian border in Kantharalak district, Sisaket province, especially at front-line areas near Khao Phra Wihan, Wat Kaeo Khwan, Sikkhakiri, and Huai Tamaria. Cambodia fired artillery, heavy machine guns, and BM-21 rockets at Thai bases, with three artillery shells landing near the border. Thai forces responded with howitzer fire at intervals until dawn.

Additionally, reports state that the military deployed F-16 jets for operations in some areas to counter Cambodia. Thai troops reportedly struck six targets around Khao Phra Wihan.

At 07:30, clashes occurred near Chong Bok and Chong An Ma border points, involving artillery and long-range support fire. Authorities warned residents to evacuate high-risk areas for safety.

At the Surin border, especially near Prasat Ta Kwai, Hill 350, Chong Krang, Hill 225, and Prasat Ta Muean Thom in Phanom Dong Rak district, Thai and Cambodian soldiers exchanged fire along the entire line overnight. Cambodian artillery intermittently fired into Thai territory while Thai forces continuously responded. Cambodia appeared to attempt to seize the area ahead of the 10:00 ceasefire signing at the GBC meeting as reported.

Last night, F-16 jets dropped multiple bombs on Cambodian positions near the border before quieting around 04:00. By 08:30, artillery fire resumed intermittently. At Chong Chom border point, Dan subdistrict, Kap Choeng district, Surin province, Thai forces fired artillery to support efforts to block Cambodian troop movements.
