EOD Surveys 6 More Suspected Sites Along Ubon Ratchathani Border, Destroys Artillery Shell Found in Cassava Field

EOD officials surveyed six more suspected sites of residual BM-21 rockets in border districts of Ubon Ratchathani province and destroyed a 105 mm artillery shell from the Cambodian side found in a local farmer's cassava field.

On 8 Jan 2026 GMT+7, reporters covering the Thai-Cambodian border situation in Ubon Ratchathani province noted that conditions remained normal. EOD teams from the Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Police Investigation Division, together with EOD personnel from Border Patrol Police Division 22 and local administrative authorities under the Internal Security Operations Command, conducted surveys at six suspected agricultural sites in Nam Yuen and Nam Khun districts where BM-21 rockets were believed to have landed.

During the survey of the first five sites in Song subdistrict, Nam Yuen district, officials found craters resembling BM-21 rocket holes, though the diameters varied. They excavated and conducted thorough inspections with specialized equipment but found no BM-21 rockets or artillery shells. This reassured the cassava farmers who own the land.

At the sixth site, located in a cassava field in Khok Sa-at subdistrict, Nam Khun district, Ubon Ratchathani province, EOD officers dug about 2 meters deep and discovered a 105 mm artillery shell from the Cambodian side, fired during the second round of clashes. They used a 2-pound high-explosive charge to destroy the shell completely before handing the area back to the local community for further use.
