On 14 January 2025 at 12:30 GMT+7, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) updated on the incident involving Express Train No. 21 Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani, where a crane used in high-speed rail construction fell onto passenger carriages in Nakhon Ratchasima Province earlier this morning. The latest death toll is 22. Authorities are currently extinguishing fires on the train cars, transporting injured persons to hospitals, and searching for additional missing individuals on the train.

Mr. Theeraphat Kachamat, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, stated that the incident involving Express Train No. 21 Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani occurred this morning (14 Jan 2025) at railway kilometer 220, marker 9, Ban Thanon Khod, Village 11, Sikhiu Subdistrict, Sikhiu District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Approximately 195 passengers and staff were on board. Initially, three carriages were damaged, 22 fatalities confirmed, with further assessments ongoing.

Regarding assistance, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation through its Region 5 Center in Nakhon Ratchasima has deployed disaster machinery including high-capacity rescue vehicles, rapid response rescue vehicles, collapse rescue vehicles, a 56-ton crane, and a truck-mounted crane, along with incident response teams. They are working together with the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, State Railway of Thailand, police, medical units, volunteer foundations, and related agencies to search for trapped individuals and transport the injured to hospitals. The current situation involves extinguishing ongoing fires on the train cars, transporting injured persons, and continuing the search for missing persons on the train.

Meanwhile, the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Public Health Office reported the situation of the crane falling on Express Train No. 21: Krungthep Apiwat - Ubon Ratchathani.
