Investigation Underway After Crane Falls on Train Crane Operator Shares Near-Death Experience

Progress in the crane collapse onto a train: police are rapidly collecting evidence and have questioned more than 15 people involved to find the real cause. Meanwhile, the crane operator opened up about his near-death experience after noticing abnormalities and hearing a loud bang.

On 14 Jan 2026 GMT+7, reporters updated on the crane collapse incident involving a construction company working on the Thai-Chinese High-Speed Rail Project, Contracts 3-4, covering civil works for the Lam Takhong – Si Khio and Kut Chik – Khok Kruat sections. The crane fell onto Express Special Train No. 21 as it passed between Nong Nam Khun and Si Khio stations in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

Recently, 52-year-old Sombat Simthantuk from Samut Prakan Province, the crane operator and eyewitness, revealed that before the incident during normal work, he noticed something unusual and heard a loud noise resembling the sliding of uneven concrete slab joints. He immediately ordered all workers to get down from heights for safety. While checking the situation, the support leg holding the concrete slab tilted and collapsed downward rapidly, causing him injuries and wounds on his body.

Meanwhile, investigators from Si Khio Police Station, responsible for the case, are urgently gathering evidence. So far, they have summoned 15 related individuals for questioning, including relatives of the deceased, injured parties, and all employees present during the incident, to determine the cause of the accident and proceed according to legal procedures.
