Mourning 6 Pattani FC Fans Killed by Crane Falling on Train

"Newin," along with a football page, posted a message expressing condolences for six Pattani FC fans who died when a crane fell onto a train as they were traveling by train to watch an away football match in Buriram.

Following the incident where a crane from the Thai-Chinese high-speed railway construction collapsed onto the Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani express train in Nakhon Ratchasima province, causing a carriage to catch fire, there were 32 fatalities and 67 injuries. Authorities mobilized to recover the train wreckage and crane from the tracks. The State Railway of Thailand ordered the closure of 14 northeastern routes, while Italian-Thai Development issued a statement accepting responsibility. Chinese authorities expressed condolences. The incident occurred on the morning of 14 Jan 2026 GMT+7, as previously reported.

Later, "Supersub Thailand" posted a message expressing deep sympathy, stating that they sincerely mourn the youths from Yala who had been traveling since 6 a.m. to Buriram station to watch the Chang FA Cup match where Pattani was visiting Buriram. All had tickets with close numbers and were on the second carriage. According to those at the stadium, the youths were in the second carriage that was burned, and communication was lost by the evening. Major media outlets reported consistently and raised the death toll to 32 by 16:50 GMT+7. The Yala Provincial Public Relations Department's page confirmed that relatives had verified and ceased search efforts, expressing condolences to all families affected.

In the evening at Nibong Baru village, Moo 7, Sateng Nok subdistrict, Mueang Yala district, Yala province, Governor Kongsakol Chantrarat conducted a preliminary investigation of the incident. It was found that six individuals had died; their identities are being verified and are expected to be residents of Yala and Pattani provinces.

The Yala governor coordinated with Nakhon Ratchasima province authorities and met with some relatives of the confirmed deceased at hospitals in Nakhon Ratchasima. He also coordinated with local agencies in the deceased’s home provinces to proceed with identification verification and arrangements to return the bodies for religious rites. Plans for ongoing support and assistance to families are underway to ensure smooth and swift processes for the bereaved.

Most recently, Newin Chidchob, chairman of Buriram United Football Club, posted condolences to Pattani FC fans, stating regret over the accident in which a crane from the high-speed train construction fell onto a train in Nakhon Ratchasima, causing numerous injuries and deaths.

He said he had just been informed that among those affected, six Pattani FC fans were involved: one confirmed dead, and five still uncontactable.

He described the accident as caused by negligence and irresponsible work by the construction company, which violated work safety regulations while trains were passing during construction.

Buriram United Football Club expresses sympathy for the Pattani FC fans affected and calls on the State Railway of Thailand to adequately compensate the families of the deceased and all injured parties, as this occurred while passengers were using railway services under its responsibility.

To show support for Pattani FC fans, longtime allied club of Buriram United,

as chairman of Buriram United, I will lead the team to visit Pattani FC during the 2026-2027 preseason to thank Pattani FC fans who traveled to Buriram, whether they arrived or not today. I express my condolences and pay tribute to the deceased here.
