
The governor of Nakhon Ratchasima met with relevant agencies to discuss compensation measures and to hold the contractor accountable for the crane accident that fell onto a train in Sikhio district. They are expediting compensation payments to the families of the deceased, initially set at 1.69 million baht per person.
At the Luang Pho Khun Parisutho meeting room in the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Hall yesterday (15 Jan 2016), Mr. Anupong Suksamanit, governor of Nakhon Ratchasima, attended a meeting and received policy directives via online system from Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The meeting convened relevant agencies including the Ministry of Transport, the Attorney General, Director-General of the Comptroller General's Department, Secretary-General of the Council of State, and the Engineering Institute of Thailand under Royal Patronage. The urgent meeting aimed to discuss construction safety for Ministry of Transport projects, establish measures, and amend laws to swiftly take legal action against contractors responsible for accidents, specifically the crane collapse onto a train in Sikhio district, Nakhon Ratchasima, and the crane collapse on Rama II Road inbound in Samut Sakhon province.
Following the meeting, Mr. Anupong Suksamanit, governor of Nakhon Ratchasima, stated that compensation for those who died in the crane collapse onto a high-speed railway construction train in Sikhio district, Nakhon Ratchasima—which caused 32 deaths and 64 injuries—will initially come from the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) at 1,000,000 baht per deceased person, plus 340,000 baht from insurance policies. Additionally, compensation under the Compensation for Victims and Defendants in Criminal Cases Act B.E. 2544 (2001) will provide 200,000 baht per deceased person, and a further 150,000 baht from Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited. In total, each deceased victim will receive an initial sum of 1,690,000 baht. Injured persons will initially receive 50,000 baht each as assistance and will receive further compensation according to legal rights.
