The Social Security Office is swiftly verifying the rights of insured workers who were injured or died in the crane collapse incident on a train in Sikhio District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. They will receive benefits from the social security fund as entitled by law.
On 16 Jan, Ms. Kanjana Poolkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office (SSO), stated that following the crane collapse on a train in Sikhio District during high-speed rail construction, which caused many deaths and injuries, the SSO expressed concern and instructed its Nakhon Ratchasima branch to urgently verify information and assist the victims. Initial checks showed that among 32 deceased and 67 injured, 10 affected individuals were employees of Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited who were working at the time of the accident, and one person remains missing under investigation.
The SSO is currently thoroughly verifying the insured status of those affected to promptly provide legal benefits. Insured victims are entitled to social security fund benefits, including old-age pension lump sum; heirs receive the full accumulated contributions plus returns; 50,000 baht funeral expenses; and death assistance. Those who contributed for 36 to less than 120 months receive death assistance equivalent to two months' average wages; those contributing 120 months or more receive six months' average wages. Medical expenses are reimbursed according to the Medical Committee's rates. If death occurs due to work, the compensation fund pays 50,000 baht funeral expenses, death compensation at 70% of wages for 10 years, plus old-age pension lump sum with interest. Injured insured workers are entitled to necessary medical expenses reimbursed as per ministerial regulations, wage compensation at 70% during medical leave, compensation for loss of organs or work stoppage at 70% of wages, and lifelong disability compensation at 70% of wages.
The SSO Secretary-General added that the Nakhon Ratchasima Social Security Office has been assigned to visit the victims at Sikhio Hospital to coordinate, provide advice, and facilitate insured persons and their families to ensure they receive their entitled benefits promptly and accurately.
