Yesterday, rescue teams recovered 32 bodies at the scene, including both complete and incomplete remains, and clarified that these figures are part of the forensic identification process.
This afternoon (16 Jan 2026), reporters updated on the large crane collapse onto a train in Sikhiu District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Public Health Office has confirmed 30 deaths from the accident. Of these, seven bodies have been claimed by relatives, 22 are awaiting identification, and one has no relatives contacting authorities. Additionally, there are some body parts pending forensic examination.
Dr. Wichan Kidkhen, Provincial Public Health Officer of Nakhon Ratchasima, stated that among the victims found at the Sikhiu train accident site, there were both complete and incomplete bodies, as well as body parts. After rescue teams recovered 32 bodies, including incomplete ones, along with additional body parts, forensic examination confirmed 30 deaths. Some incomplete bodies and body parts have not yet been identified, so the confirmed death toll stands at 30. The advanced forensic process may uncover more victims in the future.
For the bodies and body parts still unidentified, officials will conduct DNA testing to match remains with relatives' samples. This process is expected to take about two weeks before the definitive death toll can be confirmed.
