Mother Grieves Receiving Body of “Nong Chuychai,” Victim of Crane Collapse on Train Says 20 Million Baht Cant Replace Child’s Life Husband Seeks Return of Mobile Phone

A mother mourns receiving the body of “Nong Chuychai,” a victim of a crane collapse onto a train. She says that even 20 million baht cannot compensate for her child’s life. Meanwhile, the husband is searching for her mobile phone, wanting it returned because it holds many memories in it.,

On 17 January 2026, reporters visited the home of Ms. Chananayat Wongchan, or “Chuychai,” in Si Narong District, Surin Province. She was among the victims of the crane collapse onto a train in Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Her body was brought home last night amid the family’s deep sorrow.

Mrs. Dee Wongchan, 61, mother of “Nong Chuychai,” spoke to reporters with sorrowful eyes. She said Chuychai’s body arrived home around 8 p.m. last night. She was shocked upon learning her daughter had died, as Chuychai had planned to attend her father’s funeral and cremation. She had told her to come on Friday, with the cremation on Saturday, but her daughter insisted on coming earlier. She still cannot accept losing her daughter due to careless construction work. Even compensation of 10 or 20 million baht cannot replace her child’s life. She wishes to have her daughter back.

Previously, her daughter had talked with her husband about returning in April to level the land and build a house for her mother and child. The accident shattered all those dreams. She has lost the main pillar of her family forever.

Meanwhile, Mr. Pisuth Chaiphat, or “Phet,” husband of “Nong Chuychai,” said he wants his wife’s two mobile phones returned. He checked at the police station, where over 20 phones were kept, but did not find hers. He may have to wait 2–3 more days for the area to be cleared. The phones contain many photos and videos of good memories between him and his wife. He expects to request access to the phones again once the funeral is over.
