
Trinuch, Minister of Labour, has ordered the Social Security Office to urgently assist those affected by the crane collapse at the Rama 2 Expressway construction project.
On 19 January 2026, the Social Security Office accelerated aid efforts for those impacted by the crane collapse at the Special Highway No. 82 Rama 2 construction site. Ms. Trinuch Thienthong, Minister of Labour, directed the Social Security Office to promptly provide assistance, care, and facilitate benefit claims for the injured and the families of the deceased.
Ms. Kanchana Phoolkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, revealed that at 09:15 on 15 January 2026, a crane collapsed at the Special Highway No. 82 Rama 2 outbound construction site in Tha Chin Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Sakhon Province, resulting in injuries and fatalities.
An on-site investigation by the Social Security Office in Samut Sakhon found that two insured persons were injured and two died. Both deceased were eligible for old-age compensation benefits as follows:
1. Mr. Somphong Srisuk was insured under Section 40 and previously under Section 33, entitled to total old-age benefits of 6,187.49 baht.
2. Mr. Sarawut Vechakarn was previously insured under Sections 33 and 39, entitled to total old-age benefits of 50,312.54 baht.
The two injured persons are:
1. Mrs. Seephrai Namporn sustained minor injuries and was admitted to Jesada 2 Hospital.
2. Mr. Naing Oo suffered a fractured left rib; his condition is currently stable, receiving treatment at Mahachai 1 Hospital.
Ms. Kanchana added that benefits from the Workmen’s Compensation Fund for work-related injuries cover medical expenses ranging from 65,000 to 1,000,000 baht depending on the injury’s nature and severity. Treatment in government hospitals is reimbursed for actual medical costs until recovery.
Additionally, insured persons are entitled to compensation for lost income at 70% of their monthly wage for up to one year, as well as compensation for loss of limbs or work capacity proportionally. In cases of disability, compensation is 70% of monthly wages for life.
The Secretary-General of the Social Security Office assigned Ms. Wantana Natphunwat, Inspector of the Social Security Office, along with Ms. Praphawadee Kaewsiripong, Social Security officer in Samut Sakhon, to visit and encourage the injured, working with local Labour Ministry officials.
They also provided information on Workmen’s Compensation Fund benefits at Jesada 2 and Mahachai 1 Hospitals. The Social Security Office in Samut Sakhon was instructed to promptly contact the families of the deceased to fully inform them of their entitled benefits and to facilitate urgent and fair assistance to the victims’ families.
