6-Year-Old Girl Attacked by Mentally Ill Man Who Slashed Her Throat at Home Condition Now Out of Danger

A 6-year-old girl was attacked at home by a mentally ill man who grabbed a knife and slashed her throat. Her condition has now stabilized and is no longer critical. The Governor of Roi Et rushed to visit and offer encouragement, ordered the medical team to monitor her closely, and instructed the police to handle the case with caution.

At 9:00 p.m. on 22 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Lieutenant Colonel Aphai Sanehwong, Deputy Investigation Officer of Mueang Roi Et Police Station, was informed of a stabbing assault inside a residence in Ban Non Sa-at community, Khon Kaen Subdistrict, Mueang District, Roi Et Province. Upon receiving the report, authorities and the Khon Kaen Subdistrict Rescue Unit promptly arrived at the scene. They found the victim, a 6-year-old girl, with severe wounds to her neck and nose. The suspect, a 35-year-old mentally ill man, was apprehended shortly after. Update as of 3:30 p.m. on 23 Jan 2026 GMT+7: Chatchawan Benjasiriwong, Governor of Roi Et Province, accompanied by Nantawit Naksang, Deputy Governor, and relevant officials, visited the 6-year-old girl and her family at Roi Et Hospital to offer support. They found her condition has improved and is no longer critical after surgery and close medical care.

The Governor emphasized to the medical team the importance of continuous treatment and close monitoring, along with psychological support. He instructed the Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and psychologists to provide ongoing mental health care for the child and her family to mitigate psychological impacts from the incident. He also ordered related agencies to screen at-risk groups by collaborating with public health, local administration, and other relevant bodies to promptly inspect and follow up on mentally ill patients in the community.

Particularly for those with a history of violence (the red category), they must receive continuous treatment. The Governor presented a gift basket to the victim's family and expressed wishes for the girl's swift recovery and strength. He assured them not to worry about medical care or legal proceedings and stressed that the police must conduct the investigation fairly and carefully.
