TMAC Advances Clearance of Safe Zones Along Sisaket Border, Still Finds Numerous Landmines

TMAC is advancing its mission to clear safe zones along the Sisaket Province border, continuing to find numerous landmines and mortar shells.

On 23 January 2026, the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, through the National Mine Action Center (TMAC), deployed mine detection teams in Sisaket Province.

The first and second bomb disposal teams operated in the Chong Phra Phlai area at the 2609th Ranger Company base, Khun Han District, Sisaket Province. They conducted technical operations (TS) to open safe passages and expand cleared zones along minefields, securing a 685 square meter safe area and discovering 4 MBV 78 A1 landmines, which were relocated to a temporary explosive collection site.

Summary of mine clearance in Chong Phra Phlai: covering an area of 2,000 square meters from 21 January 2026 to present, achieving a total safe zone of 2,000 square meters with no remaining uncleared areas. The mission concluded with the detection of 6 explosive items: 5 MBV 78 A1 landmines and 1 mortar shell of 120 millimeters.

The third bomb disposal team supported the 614th Cavalry Special Task Battalion, 2nd Army Area, operating at the Ma Lek base in Phu Pha Mok Subdistrict, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province. They cleared mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) over 1,485 square meters, discovering 4 PMN 2 landmines and 1 UXO mortar shell of 100 millimeters, all collected and secured at the Ma Lek base.

Summary of mine clearance at Ma Lek base from 21 January 2026 to present: a safe zone of 3,711 square meters was established, with 10 explosive items found, including 9 PMN 2 landmines and 1 UXO mortar shell of 100 millimeters.

This mission reflects the determination of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters and TMAC to eliminate the threat of landmines and restore safety and security to the communities along the Thai-Cambodian border.
