Over 100-Year-Old Building Burns Down in Sing Tha Old Town Area, Two Shops Destroyed

A fire broke out in a building over 100 years old in the Sing Tha old community area of Yasothon Province, causing residents to flee for their lives. The flames spread, destroying two shop units and partially damaging another.

At 11:50 a.m. on 7 Feb 2026 GMT+7, investigators from the Mueang Yasothon Police Station received reports of a fire in a building more than 100 years old in the old town area of Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Yasothon Province. They immediately proceeded to the scene and coordinated fire trucks to respond.

The fire occurred in a two-story building with a wooden frame and old brick walls, which served as effective fuel. The hot midday weather contributed to the fire's intensity. The building's owner operated a noodle shop on the ground floor. The fire began on the second floor, then spread downward rapidly, causing the roof structure to collapse amid panic and fear among nearby residents. The area, part of the centuries-old Sing Tha old town community in Yasothon Municipality, contains many old buildings and wooden homes closely packed together.

Many residents hurriedly moved their valuable belongings out of their homes, gathering them chaotically by the roadside. More than seven fire trucks from Yasothon Municipality and surrounding local administrations were deployed to douse the flames engulfing the entire building. After more than an hour, the fire was contained but caused complete damage to two shop units and partial damage to another.

The extent of the damage is still being assessed. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities occurred in this incident, although the building owner's wife was so shocked by the event that she fainted and was rushed to the hospital.

Mr. Theerachai Subin, 53, the building's tenant, said he had rented the premises for over 10 years to operate a noodle shop, using only the ground floor. The second floor was unused due to the building's age.

Before the fire, the shop was operating normally with his wife selling noodles. He was away working outside when his wife reported seeing flames suddenly erupt on the second floor, quickly spreading due to the building's old wooden structure, which acted as fuel. The fire then spread to the ground floor, engulfing the entire building. His wife fled immediately without retrieving any belongings, resulting in the loss of valuable items, kitchenware, and noodle shop equipment.

The cause of the fire remains unclear. Officials are awaiting forensic investigators to examine the scene and determine the exact cause.
