81-Year-Old Grandmother Seriously Injured After Falling into Fire Bedridden Son Tries to Signal for Help

An 81-year-old grandmother tried to cook for herself but accidentally fell into a fire and was seriously injured. Her bedridden son tried banging on a tin roof, hoping someone would hear and come to help.

At 08:00 on 11 Feb 2026, the Lumpuk Subdistrict Administrative Organization rescue team in Mueang district, Buriram, received a report from villagers in Lamduan Village, Moo 17, Lumpuk Subdistrict, about an elderly person who had fallen into a fire. They promptly went to provide assistance.

At the scene at a small one-story house in Lamduan Village, Lumpuk Subdistrict, Mueang Buriram district, they found 81-year-old Lamai sitting in a wheelchair. Relatives and villagers were giving first aid. She had burns from the chest down to her feet, with burn marks all over, but was still conscious. The rescue team urgently transported her to the hospital due to the severity of her condition.

Lamphuan, 54, a relative of the injured grandmother, said that the house was occupied by the grandmother and her 50-year-old bedridden son living alone. Every day, the grandmother's daughter-in-law brings cooked food to them.

At the time of the incident, Lamphuan, who was nearby, heard loud banging on a tin roof. She ran out and saw the grandmother with burn marks on her clothes and body, still trying to pour water on the fire. She then called villagers to come and help.

Preliminary questioning revealed the grandmother said she was "hungry" but had nothing to eat. She went outside to light a fire to cook for herself but fainted and fell into the fire. During this, her bedridden son likely witnessed the event but could not help, so he banged on the tin wall to signal for help.
