On 24 Feb 2026, Major General Winthai Suwaree, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, stated that at approximately 08:50 a.m., the Army received a report from the 2nd Army Area Command that during a routine patrol by Thai forces near Phlan Hin Paed Kon in Si Sa Ket Province, within the responsibility of the Suranaree Task Force, Cambodian forces fired a single 40mm grenade launcher round into an area close to the Thai patrol point. No Thai personnel were injured in the incident.
Following the incident, Thai forces returned fire with an M79 grenade launcher in the direction of the incoming fire, in accordance with engagement rules, as a warning and self-defense measure to protect personnel and their area of responsibility. Additionally, surveillance and caution measures have been intensified continuously.
The Army spokesperson emphasized that Cambodia's actions violated the ceasefire agreement outlined in the Joint Statement mutually upheld by both sides since its signing on 27 December 2025. Preliminary assessments suggest the incident may have resulted from Cambodian troop rotations involving new personnel unfamiliar with regulations and command control, leading to operational lapses in the area.
Units on the ground have increased vigilance and strictly adhered to operational protocols, prioritizing the safety of personnel and civilians.
