National Police Chief Orders Evacuation After Explosion at Old Ammunition Depot in Surin

The National Police Chief urgently ordered the Border Patrol Police Commander to clear the area and evacuate people from the blast radius of an ammunition depot explosion at Border Patrol Police Company 21 in Surin. It is believed not to be sabotage. The explosion site was an old ammunition depot.

Today (24 February 2026), Police Lieutenant General Chaitphojan Suwanrak, Commander of the Personnel Office and Deputy Spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, stated that Police General Kittirat Punpetch, the National Police Chief, urgently directed Police Lieutenant General Rungroj Thakoorpunyasiri, Commander of the Border Patrol Police, the Commander of Border Patrol Police Region 2, and the Commander of Border Patrol Police Company 21 to quickly clear the area and evacuate people outside the blast radius at the ammunition depot of Border Patrol Police Company 21, Chanieng Subdistrict, Mueang District, Surin Province, where the explosion occurred at 19:45. This is for safety. Once the situation is stable, an immediate investigation into the cause is to be conducted.

It is believed that the explosion was not sabotage. The incident occurred at an old ammunition depot that is stored in a safe location. Currently, authorities are managing the situation and have evacuated people to a safe area while conducting investigations and clearing the scene.
