Man Climbs 36-Meter Signal Tower for Over 2 Days, Eventually Comes Down Weary and Hungry

A 32-year-old man climbed a 36-meter-high signal tower and voluntarily came down before trying to run away. He was ultimately caught by police, who found him exhausted, worn out, and complaining of hunger after spending more than two days on the tower.

On 24 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reporters updated that the tense incident in the community has ended. A 32-year-old man who climbed a communication tower over 36 meters tall in Ban Don Wua, Village No. 10, Lat Bua Khao Subdistrict, Sikhiu District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, came down by himself before attempting to flee but was apprehended by police after spending over two days on the tower.

In this case, Sikhiu Police Station officers received a report of a person climbing a communication tower in Ban Don Wua. The man was later identified as Mr. Somsak, 32, who climbed about 36 meters up the tower, causing alarm among witnesses and local residents. Multiple agencies mobilized to assist and closely monitored the situation overnight but were initially unable to get him down.

Most recently, at 15:00 on 24 Mar 2026 GMT+7, Pol. Maj. Gen. Narongsak Phromtha, Commander of Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Police, along with Pol. Col. Thatchapon Chinwong, Chief of Sikhiu Police Station, rescue personnel from Huk 31, the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, and related agencies decided to withdraw forces from the area to reduce pressure on the man.

Later, the man looked down from the top and saw no officers below, so he slowly climbed down the communication tower and ran away from the scene. However, police had already positioned personnel around the area and were able to track and detain him not far from the incident site.

After taking him into custody, Pol. Maj. Gen. Narongsak Phromtha spoke with the man and found him tired and worn out, complaining of hunger, as he had been on the tower since the previous day (23 Mar 2026) until coming down—totaling over two days and two hours.

Initially, police arranged for an ambulance to examine and urgently assist him before transferring him to a hospital for treatment. Once stable, he will be thoroughly questioned to proceed with legal action.
