A deeply sorrowful atmosphere as the family of four young children who drowned together in Buriram Province held a ritual to call their spirits home, with teachers and fellow students coming to mourn.
The tragic case involves four children, approximately 7 to 11 years old—Anda, LC, Bright, and Kan—from Chamni District, Buriram Province, who all drowned simultaneously in a pond near Lam Huai Noi, Village 7, Chamni Subdistrict, on the evening of 28 Mar 2026 GMT+7. Their guardians had gone to help extinguish a spreading field fire, leaving the children unattended, causing great grief for the family.
The family placed the bodies of all four children for funeral rites at Wat Chanataram, also known as Wat Chamni. The parents and grandparents are deeply unable to accept the loss of their beloved children all at once. Meanwhile, teachers and students who learned of the tragedy came continuously to the temple to pay their respects.
This morning (29 Mar 2026 GMT+7), the family brought photographs of the four unfortunate children to the pond where the drowning occurred to perform a ritual inviting the spirits back. The parents and grandparents called out to their children to come home, following traditional beliefs. Some guardians said, “Come back home, don’t stay here; it’s cold.” The atmosphere was filled with profound sorrow and grief.
However, the family remains unable to accept the tragic event and prays that the spirits of their departed children become angels in heaven. They stated that the funerals are scheduled for 1 and 2 Apr, with two cremations per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
