Fire at Phimai Sugar Factory in Korat: Black Smoke Covers Sky, Residents Evacuated

A fire broke out at the Phimai sugar factory in Nakhon Ratchasima and remains uncontrolled. Thick smoke covers the entire Nong Ra Wiang subdistrict. Authorities are urgently evacuating residents to safe areas.

At 11:30 a.m. today (12 April 2026), a severe fire erupted inside the Phimai sugar factory in Nong Ra Wiang subdistrict, Phimai district, Nakhon Ratchasima province. More than 20 fire trucks from municipal and local administrative organizations have been deployed to fight the fire but have yet to control it.

According to a sugar factory worker who witnessed the incident, the fire started around the sugarcane residue conveyor belt while the machinery was running. Combined with extremely hot weather, this caused the fire to ignite and spread rapidly.

Factory workers tried to extinguish the fire but failed to control it. They alerted the Nong Ra Wiang Subdistrict Administrative Organization and nearby local authorities, who sent fire trucks to contain the blaze. However, the fire remains uncontrolled. The factory is now moving trucks, loaders, and other vehicles out to safe locations.

The fire has caused smoke to spread throughout Nong Ra Wiang subdistrict, impacting residents' respiratory health. Village heads, local leaders, and administrative officials are rushing to evacuate children and elderly people from nearby villages to safety. Phimai district authorities have set up first aid stations to assist affected residents.
