Roi Et Kicks Off 2026 Grand Songkran Festival with Over 120-Meter Water Tunnel on Khao Hom Mali Road

Roi Et opened the 2026 Grand Songkran Festival on Khao Hom Mali Road, featuring the highlight "Water Tunnel" over 120 meters long to welcome tourists, emphasizing a traditional Thai Songkran free from alcohol and cigarettes, and smoke-free.

At 4:30 p.m. on 13 April 2026, the atmosphere at the Songkran traditional festival on Khao Hom Mali Road in Roi Et province was lively. Mrs. Pranee Wongbut, Deputy Governor of Roi Et, together with Mr. Banjong Khositchiranan, Mayor of Roi Et City, heads of government agencies, and over 5,000 citizens attended the grand opening ceremony at the Saket Stage, Somdej Phra Srinagarindra Roi Et Park.

The event featured a parade of Buddha statues from temples within the Roi Et municipality, moving along Khao Hom Mali Road amid a modernized long drum procession that added color and enjoyment for participants. Locals and tourists joyfully joined in traditional Isan dance and "Ho Saew" performances, beautifully reflecting the unique Isan culture.

The key highlight this year is the "Water Tunnel" stretching over 120 meters long. It is located on Khao Hom Mali Road, beneath the landmark "Roi Et Ho Wot Tower," allowing tourists to walk and cool off fully amidst a traditional Thai Songkran atmosphere that combines heritage preservation with fun.

Organizers emphasized that this is an alcohol- and smoke-free Songkran, conducted continuously with the ThaiHealth Promotion Foundation for over 10 years to ensure safety for participants of all ages.

Additionally, there is a children’s zone with two large inflatable pools, accommodating families to confidently bring their children to play in the water. A music stage hosts daily performances from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with artist "Nuch Wilawan" entertaining attendees up close on 13 April.

Mr. Banjong Khositchiranan, Mayor of Roi Et City, revealed that this year the municipality gathered public opinions and established a one-way traffic system for convenience and safety. The route starts from the Hai Sorak Market intersection, along Phadung Phanit Road to Thong Suay intersection, continuing on Kong Phon Sip Road up to the Roi Et Bus Station intersection, to accommodate the large number of visitors.

Meanwhile, the water-play atmosphere within Roi Et municipality has been lively since the morning, especially on Kong Phon Sip and Phadung Phanit Roads, where people have continuously enjoyed water activities.

The province invites tourists to experience "Roi Et Songkran," which perfectly blends fun and culture in a safe environment on Khao Hom Mali Road during this year’s festival.
