40-Year-Old Woman Struck by Lightning and Killed While Untying Cows Tether in Paddy Field

A 40-year-old woman riding a motorcycle to untie a cow tethered in a paddy field at Ban Don Muang, Udon Thani province, tragically died after being struck by lightning along her body.

On 26 April 2026 at approximately 15:30, Police Lieutenant Colonel Nikul Janhom, investigator at Phibun Rak Police Station, Udon Thani, received a report of a lightning strike causing a fatality in a paddy field at Ban Don Muang, Village No. 3, Na Sai Subdistrict, Phibun Rak District, Udon Thani, and was requested to inspect the scene.

After receiving the report, Police Lieutenant Colonel Nikul Janhom promptly went to the scene accompanied by the duty doctor from Phibun Rak Hospital. At the scene, they found the deceased, struck by lightning, identified as Ms. Manatsanan, aged 40.

Preliminary questioning of Mr. Wichit, the deceased's husband, revealed that before the incident, his wife had brought their cow to be tied at the location. Later, during a thunderstorm, she rode her motorcycle to untie the cow's tether and was about to return to her motorcycle parked nearby when lightning struck her body, causing her immediate death.

However, the relatives accepted the cause of death and handed over the body to family members for traditional funeral rites.
