Bee Swarm Causes Panic During Ordination Parade Over 10 Injured

A swarm of giant bees broke out and attacked a group participating in an ordination parade, causing them to flee in panic. More than 10 people were injured and sent to hospital. The cause is believed to be the loud music from the parade truck that provoked the bees.

At 10:30 a.m. on 17 May 2026, Mr. Raden Pengnuam, mayor of Klang Dong Subdistrict Municipality, Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima, received a report of a giant bee swarm attacking people in an ordination parade at Wat Klang Dong. Over 10 people were injured. He ordered the Klang Dong municipal rescue unit and coordinated with the Si Ma Mongkhon Subdistrict rescue unit and Pak Chong Nana Hospital ambulances.

At the scene, many injured people including women, men, children, and locals gathered at the sports field of Wat Klang Dong School, about 100 meters from the ordination hall where the incident occurred. They administered smelling salts and applied balm to those stung by bees as first aid. In total, 11 people were injured, including three men with severe pain and breathing difficulties who were sent to Muak Lek Hospital. The other eight injured—women, men, and children—were taken to Pak Chong Nana Hospital.

An investigation revealed that before the incident, the ordination parade had circled the ordination hall at Wat Klang Dong three times, led by a small parade truck. After nearly two circuits, two large giant bee hives located on the ceiling in front and on the side of the ordination hall had many large bees flying widely. It is believed that the vibrations caused by the music, especially from the bass speaker of the parade truck, disturbed the bees, causing them to swarm and sting participants. The parade was broken up as people fled in panic and the full three circuits could not be completed. The ordination candidates were unharmed, and their relatives escorted them into the ordination hall to continue the ceremony.
