Scaffolding Collapse Kills 2, Seriously Injures 1 at Police Housing Construction Site

In Sisaket, a scaffolding collapse occurred at a police housing construction project, causing workers to fall from the 5th floor. Two workers died and one was seriously injured. A worker recounted hearing a loud noise just before his colleagues fell to the ground.

At 10:00 a.m. on 25 May 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Akkharapong Thewela, investigation officer at Mueang Sisaket Police Station, was notified that workers had fallen from scaffolding on the 5th floor of a police housing construction site on Sriwiset Road, behind the Mueang Sisaket Police Station. He promptly informed his superiors and coordinated with rescue units. Police Colonel Chayakorn Tesabamrung, deputy commander of Sisaket Provincial Police, along with Police Lieutenant Colonel Aphirak Boonnak, deputy superintendent for crime prevention at Mueang Sisaket Police Station, joined the scene to investigate.

The scene was a five-story police housing building under construction, with an open ground floor and floors 2 to 5 designated for residence. The incident occurred on the 5th floor where workers were pouring concrete beams. Three workers fell from the 5th floor: Mr. Sangwan Chaibamrung, 58, Mr. Nuay Rayabsri, about 55, and Mr. Phithak Penjam, about 50. The injured were in serious condition. Sisaket hospital staff and rescue teams urgently transported them for further treatment at Sisaket Hospital.

Mr. Siriwat Namwiset, 44, a construction worker working alongside the injured on the 5th floor, recounted that while he was pouring a beam with three others who fell, they were repairing the beam formwork because after pouring concrete, the beam was found unstable. They had stopped pouring to reinforce the formwork. While repairing, they heard a loud noise. Workers asked what the noise was, and he responded, "Was that not my footsteps?" Before he could finish, the beam formwork and the scaffolding they were standing on collapsed, dropping three workers below. He managed to grab onto the formwork and narrowly escaped.

Later reports confirmed that Mr. Sangwan and Mr. Phithak died from their injuries. Mr. Nuay remained in critical condition but conscious and required a brain X-ray. Authorities thoroughly collected evidence at the scene and planned to re-interview witnesses to proceed with legal action.
