The family mourned deeply, singing and blowing out a birthday cake in front of the coffin of "Gafius," a good Samaritan who rode a motorcycle to help a woman escape her threatening ex-boyfriend, only to be fatally hit from behind. His girlfriend tearfully opened up, sharing plans to marry early next year and saying she never expected to face such tragic news on the day they came to celebrate his birthday.
The tragic incident occurred in Surin Province when a man driving a car crashed into a motorcycle, killing two people. Initially thought to be an accident, investigation of the car’s dashcam revealed the truth: the deceased woman was the girlfriend who had argued with her ex before fleeing on a motorcycle driven by the good Samaritan, Mr. Natthanon Jitharn, an official at the Provincial Electricity Authority in Surin and a native of Roi Et Province. Both were fatally struck from behind, as previously reported.
On the evening of 9 June 2026 at the Nong Bua temple pavilion in Mueang district, Surin, where Mr. Natthanon Jitharn’s funeral was held, the atmosphere was filled with grief among family, relatives, and friends during the first day of the funeral rites. Coincidentally, it was also the 29th birthday of the deceased, so loved ones lit candles and blew out a birthday cake in front of his coffin amid tears and sorrow.
Mr. Kanjan Jitharn, the father of the deceased, shared that the family is still unable to accept what happened. His son was the family's pillar, just starting to build his life with a promising future ahead. At 29 years old, it was heartbreaking that such a tragedy occurred. The family especially struggles to console the mother, who has been crying continuously.
He added a message to the perpetrator, saying, "You should have some conscience when giving interviews claiming it was unintentional. How can you say that? What you did caused parents and a loved one to lose someone irreplaceable. I urge the law enforcement authorities to help ordinary people like us and pursue this case to the fullest extent."
He continued, "Today, 9 June, is his birthday, but he passed away on the 8th. Everyone lit candles and blew out the birthday cake out of love and respect for the goodness he embodied. Both his girlfriend, friends, and colleagues loved and cared for him because he was a kind and pleasant person. In my heart, I wish him to rest in a good place. If reincarnation exists, I hope he will be born as my son again."
Meanwhile, Nong Moss, the deceased’s girlfriend, tearfully revealed she had traveled from Nakhon Ratchasima Province to celebrate his birthday but was met with tragic news she never expected. While waiting at Surin bus terminal, she tried calling him multiple times without success and became worried, eventually hiring a tuk-tuk to search for him.
Upon arriving at the accident scene and seeing the motorcycle and familiar license plate, she began to suspect it was her boyfriend’s vehicle, though she tried to deny the truth. After relatives confirmed with police that he was indeed her boyfriend, she broke down and found it impossible to accept the tragedy.
The girlfriend further shared that they had planned a future together, including serious discussions about marriage, but never imagined their dreams would end so abruptly. "I intended to come celebrate his birthday and wish him happiness, but I never thought the birthday party would turn into a funeral."
