What Did My Child Do Wrong? Victim of Car Collision Dies Alongside Good Samaritan, Leaving Two Orphans

The cremation was held for a 32-year-old woman who was a victim of her ex-husband driving a car that struck a motorcycle, killing her and a good Samaritan. Her mother broke down, asking, “What did my child do wrong?” She had given many chances before, for the sake of her two grandchildren, but in the end, they were left motherless.

On 10 June 2026 at Pa Wat, Ban Tan Nuang, Village No. 14, Chenieng Subdistrict, Mueang District, Surin Province, the cremation ceremony was held for Ms. Thidarat Thonthong, age 32, who died after being struck from behind by her boyfriend, Mr. Anon Kongkeng, also 32, from Surin Province, driving a car. A good Samaritan was also killed in the incident. The atmosphere was filled with sorrow, especially for her father, who was inconsolable and wept continuously, with relatives comforting him. Her passing also left two children, aged 9 and 5, motherless.

Ms. Porntip Mokmai, 52, the deceased’s aunt, said the victim and Mr. Anon had been married and had a 5-year-old daughter. Mr. Anon frequently abused the victim, sometimes to the point she needed hospital treatment. The victim often asked to separate, but Mr. Anon refused. Most recently, the Saturday before the incident, he assaulted her again. She hopes the law will impose the harshest penalties, even death, on him.

Ms. Samran Khaowngam, 64, the mother of the deceased, tearfully revealed that her daughter had separated from her boyfriend about a week before the incident due to domestic violence. She asked him to move out to the city. They had frequent arguments, with the worst occurring on 23 May, leading to her daughter needing hospital care, before the tragic event unfolded.

“I really never expected this. He looked good and seemed well-behaved, but he could do this to someone he loved,” the mother said, also admitting she had never seen his angry side because her daughter never shared the details with her.

The mother further disclosed that her daughter had been physically abused multiple times, including being taken to an irrigation reservoir area to be assaulted repeatedly. Yet the family always chose to forgive and give chances for the sake of the two grandchildren. Although the couple had separated, the man had not let go, and the daughter often softened when they met, until this heartbreaking incident occurred. “I just want to know what my child did wrong to deserve such a fate.” The mother spoke with deep pain.
