A drunken man carried a 7-year-old girl into the bushes. Suspicious neighbors rushed to help and detained him before handing him over to the police. The suspect admitted he intended to lure her for sexual assault by offering 20 baht, but the girl did not consent.
At 18:00 on 21 June 2026, the 191 Ratchathani Radio Center received a report of an attempted sexual assault on a young girl that failed, with the suspect abandoning her in bushes inside a village park in Kham Yai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. They coordinated with Police Sergeant Major Pramot Buraporn, head of the Kham Yai patrol unit, and Police Sub-Lieutenant Ruangsak Rungruang, the prevention and suppression officer, to investigate the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found villagers helping to restrain Mr. Jarungkit, 45, the suspect, who was heavily intoxicated. In preliminary questioning, Jarungkit confessed to abducting the 7-year-old girl, referred to as A (alias), from in front of her home to the village park. He intended to exchange 20 baht for sexual assault, but the girl resisted and refused until a good Samaritan intervened.
The good Samaritan who helped recounted that while watering plants near a shop, he saw Jarungkit, a neighbor, following the girl after she had just bought snacks. Initially, he was not suspicious, but after hearing the girl shout loudly a second time and noticing something was wrong, he approached and saw Jarungkit lying on his back with the girl sitting on him. He immediately intervened and alerted others to help detain the suspect and notify the police.
The suspect is well known in the village for his habitual drinking and causing trouble for neighbors. He has previously been arrested multiple times for disorderly conduct while intoxicated. Police have formally charged him with "attempted sexual assault of a minor" and transferred him to Police Sub-Lieutenant Kulwarin Chutisirikul Sak, deputy investigator, to proceed with legal action.
