Mother Shocked to Find 12-Year-Old Daughters Body in Forest Behind Village in Bueng Kan Province

A tragic incident in Bueng Kan Province: a mother shocked while searching for mushrooms in the forest behind the village found the body of a 12-year-old girl, deceased under mysterious circumstances. She called villagers for help before realizing it was her own daughter. Police have summoned suspects for questioning and are intensifying efforts to identify the culprit.

At approximately 11:00 on 24 June 2026, Police Lieutenant Apicha Wongwian, Deputy Investigator at Seka Police Station, Seka District, Bueng Kan Province, was notified by the 191 radio center of a mysterious death of a young girl found in the forest behind Bueng Kheng village, Village No. 2, Nong Thum Subdistrict, Seka District, Bueng Kan. He reported to superiors accordingly and coordinated with Theparak Seka Rescue and Satchatham Seka Rescue to join the local police chief Pol. Col. Kharom Phromkhun, the investigative team, and village patrol officers at the scene.

At the scene, they found the body of a 12-year-old girl lying on her back, wearing a gray and white cartoon-patterned shirt, with her lower body exposed. A pair of black sweatpants was found around her neck, appearing to have been used to strangle her. Authorities secured the scene and coordinated with Bueng Kan forensic police and the duty doctor from Seka Hospital to conduct an autopsy and collect evidence, reporting the violent incident to Police Major General Sirasan Yeuansanguanchai, Commander of Bueng Kan Provincial Police.

Interviewed, Mrs. Petcharee, 31, the girl's mother, said she last saw her daughter around 9 p.m. the previous night. This morning, while foraging for mushrooms about one kilometer from their home in the forest behind the village—a routine activity for her—she saw what looked like a person or a doll lying there. Shocked, she quickly drove away and alerted villagers to come and check, not expecting it to be her own daughter.

Mr. Nirun, 27, the girl's stepfather, said he had only been living with the mother since after Songkran Festival. He did not suspect anyone and was unaware where the girl had played with friends. She was cheerful and lively, with no prior issues that raised concern, attending school as usual. He only knew that the mother's sister said her boyfriend had driven the girl to the front of Nong Thum School at about 8 p.m.

Mrs. Boonjan Kulrat, Village Head of Village No. 2, Bueng Kheng, said the 12-year-old girl was well-behaved, polite, attractive, obedient, and a close friend of her granddaughter. The local children were studious and stayed close to home. She did not believe the crime was committed by a single person and suspected there were accomplices involved, likely more than one individual.

Miss Wasinee, 22, the girl's aunt, recounted that around 7:30 p.m., the girl asked her to take her to a friend's house near Nong Thum School. As she was putting her own child to bed, she sent her boyfriend to drop the girl off. He returned quickly and spent the night with her. The boyfriend told her that the girl said a friend would bring her home afterward and that he could leave first. She trusted her boyfriend, knowing him since childhood with no suspicious behavior; he neither smoked nor drank. Currently, he was away, helping a friend collect rubber lumps.

Police Colonel Chitsanupong Prommidech, Deputy Commander of Bueng Kan Provincial Police, stated that all police units are collaborating intensively in the investigation. Suspected individuals believed to be involved have been summoned for questioning to identify others connected to the case. They are pursuing every lead to find and prosecute the actual perpetrators. Meanwhile, medical examiners found evidence of sexual assault and bleeding on the body. After the autopsy, the body was handed over to rescue workers to be sent for a detailed post-mortem at Srinagarind Hospital, Khon Kaen Province, to clarify the cause of death.

Local residents expressed deep shock over the incident and hope authorities will swiftly resolve the case to bring those responsible to justice.
