Nurse Hero Pee Wat Opens Up About Jumping to Help Injured Buddhist Pilgrim, Ignoring Calls Thats a Monk

Proud of her profession.  "Pee Wat". The nurse hero opens up about the moment she jumped to help an injured Buddhist pilgrim after a pickup truck crash, ignoring remarks. "That's a monk." But she sees them as patients.

Afterwards, the Public Health Division of the Mukdahan Provincial Administrative Organizationannounced commendations for 1. Mrs. Wiwat Lenoi, senior professional nurse at Tha Khai-Na Lae Health Promotion Hospital, 2. Mrs. Surita Kanadee, senior professional nurse at Kaeng Health Promotion Hospital, and 3. Mr. Akra Kanadee, senior public health academic at Na Sameng Health Promotion Hospital.

This was in recognition of their true professional spirit and citizenship in aiding injured parties from the pickup truck crash involving Buddhist pilgrims traveling to Ubon Ratchathani Province on 2 July 2026, at Ban Na Wiang Kae, Na Sinuan Subdistrict, Mueang Mukdahan District, Mukdahan Province.

Recently, Mrs. Wiwat Lenoi, senior professional nurse, recounted the moment she helped the injured monks: "That day I was driving to run errands but came across the accident with many injured people. I identified myself as a nurse and moved to help. While talking with people at the scene, someone said they had notified the health center but no one had arrived yet, so I called emergency number 1669."

While on the call, I assessed the injured and told monks who could still move to gather under a tree. After checking the injured, I immediately performed CPR on a monk without a pulse, helping to resuscitate him. Everyone struggled to decide whom to help first because all were severely injured. I chose to help quickly, turning one monk on his side after reviving him, then moved on to another. Within five minutes, hospital and rescue teams began arriving at the scene.

At first, people thought it was a vehicle rollover accident and wondered why so many monks were involved yet only one vehicle was present. Someone told me, "Those are monks." I replied, "They are patients."

I feel proud of my profession and the knowledge I have gained to help fellow humans. If I were not in this profession, I don't know how much I could have done. I'm glad I was able to help because this was the biggest accident I have ever encountered in my career."
