The flooding situation in Nakhon Phanom Municipality, Nakhon Phanom Province, has eased. The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department announced that the rain has stopped, and vehicle traffic has returned to normal. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
Earlier this morning, Nakhon Phanom Province experienced several hours of heavy rain, causing floodwaters to inundate the municipality, including the economic district along Apibanbancha Road, where water pooled awaiting drainage and vehicle movement was difficult. On 9 August 2026, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department stated that social media reports indicated very heavy rainfall in Nakhon Phanom Municipality, causing water to accumulate on all roads awaiting drainage, with some flooding into residents' homes extensively.
The department verified with Nakhon Phanom Province that at 07:00 today, heavy rain caused flooding in low-lying areas of Mueang Nakhon Phanom District, affecting 9 subdistricts and 35 villages. Floodwaters also covered the roadway on Apibanbancha Road in Nakhon Phanom Municipality, preventing vehicle passage. No injuries or deaths were reported.
Currently, the rain has stopped, the situation has eased back to normal, and vehicles can now travel along the affected routes as usual.
Since the flooding began, the Nakhon Phanom Provincial Disaster Prevention Office, district authorities, police, local administrative organizations, and related agencies have provided assistance by expediting water drainage. They coordinated with Regional Disaster Prevention Center 7 in Sakon Nakhon, which supplied three high-capacity water pumps, a 10-member Emergency Response Team, and a Mobile Unit equipped with flood relief vehicles and pumps capable of sending water up to 3 kilometers to support relief efforts immediately.
Nevertheless, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department continues to work with Nakhon Phanom Province to closely monitor the situation, ensuring readiness to assist the public promptly should an emergency occur.
