A 2-year-old boy secretly clung to the back of an ice delivery truck traveling from Chiang Khrua Subdistrict into Sakon Nakhon city for over 10 kilometers. Police noticed the child, intervened, and safely returned him to his family safely without harm.
On 17 August 2026, reporters received a report from a Facebook user named " Wan Wisak Unchangwang Fa Sai Service " who posted a video showing a car following an ice delivery truck stopped at a red light at Pratu Mueang Intersection, Sakon Nakhon Municipality area. At the back of the truck, a boy about 2 years old wearing a long-sleeved dull white shirt was holding on. Traffic police arrived to check and assist the child.
Pol. Sgt. Maj. Jakkrit Buppasiri, Traffic Unit Chief at Sakon Nakhon City Police Station, revealed that while directing traffic at Lan Ruam Namjai, Pratu Mueang Intersection, he noticed something at the back of the ice delivery truck stopped at the red light. Initially, he thought it was a doll, but on closer inspection, he saw a boy about 2 years old holding on to the truck.
At the same time, the ice delivery driver came down and also saw the child. Upon questioning, he said he had previously delivered ice in Chiang Khrua Village, Chiang Khrua Subdistrict, Mueang Sakon Nakhon District, then stopped for errands at the village's outskirts before driving into the city. He was unaware the child had secretly climbed on board, likely when the truck was parked during those errands near villagers gathering morning glory in the area.
After finding the child, Pol. Sgt. Maj. Jakkrit took him to Sakon Nakhon City Police Station to quickly locate his guardians.
Later, Pol. Col. Apirak Sriharaksa, Chief of Sakon Nakhon City Police Station, received the report and ordered coordination with Chiang Khrua Subdistrict. They learned the boy lived in Chiang Khrua Municipality, so they contacted municipality officials to pick up the child and return him safely to his family.
Initial findings showed the boy had become separated from his mother while she went to gather morning glory by the pond's edge. He was later found clinging to the back of the ice truck, having traveled over 10 kilometers unnoticed. This incident serves as an important warning to parents, especially of young children who cannot yet care for themselves or assess dangers. A brief lapse in supervision can lead to unexpected situations. Fortunately, this time the child was spotted and authorities intervened promptly. Parents are urged to be more vigilant in caring for their children to prevent similar dangerous incidents.
