Khon Kaen Police Inspect Wat Pa Adulyaram After Mysterious Man Intrudes Late at Night Asking About Video Recording

Khon Kaen police deployed to the area "Wat Pa Adulyaram" after the abbot filed a complaint about a "mysterious man" who intruded late at night, asking a temple disciple about filming clips. Security personnel were increased and additional CCTV cameras installed.

At 11:00 a.m. on 19 Aug 2026 at Wat Pa Adulyaram, Kangsadan community, Khon Kaen Municipality, Khon Kaen Province, Pol. Col. Yosawat Kaewsuebtanyanit, superintendent of Mueang Khon Kaen Police Station, accompanied by patrol officers, met with Phra Kru Adulsaranithet, abbot of Wat Pa Adulyaram, to offer support and inquire about an incident where a mysterious man on a motorcycle came to question and disturb temple novices late the previous night.

They spent about 20 minutes discussing the incident with the abbot before he went for dialysis treatment at Srinagarind Hospital as prescribed by doctors. Meanwhile, officers inspected the scene, reviewed CCTV footage, and questioned witnesses to proceed with legal action.

Pol. Col. Yosawat Kaewsuebtanyanit stated that following the incident, the abbot and witnesses submitted video evidence to the Mueang Khon Kaen Police Station. Investigators are now following legal procedures accordingly.

The footage shows a man wearing shorts and a short-sleeved orange and black shirt riding a black Honda Wave motorcycle with no visible license plate and a bag mounted on the rear resembling a food delivery rider. He parked about 30 meters from the abbot’s residence and 10 meters from a disciple’s quarters before approaching Mr. Kavee Klanakko, 57, a temple disciple resting in a room opposite the abbot’s residence.

When the suspect met Mr. Kavee, he asked, "Are you the one filming the clip?" A verbal exchange ensued, and as Mr. Kavee raised his phone to record, the man fled on his motorcycle.

"Officers will continue investigations and have increased patrol and plainclothes personnel to secure the temple and its surroundings. An additional CCTV camera has been installed in front of the abbot’s residence, capturing a wider and farther view. Coordination with local authorities and temple disciples is ongoing to collectively safeguard the temple and its clergy," said Pol. Col. Yosawat.

Mr. Kavee Klanakko, 57, a temple disciple, said that while resting in his room opposite the abbot’s residence, he heard a motorcycle park on the road less than 10 meters from his quarters and about 50 meters from the abbot’s residence. Hearing the prolonged engine noise at night, he went to investigate. When confronting the man, the suspect asked, "Are you the one who filmed the clip?" Mr. Kavee confirmed he was, leading to an argument. The man tried to retrieve something from his bag, prompting Mr. Kavee to grab his phone and record before the suspect fled on his motorcycle.

The entire incident was captured by the CCTV camera installed in front of the abbot’s residence. Both the abbot and Mr. Kavee have filed a police report. Mr. Kavee admitted feeling afraid during the confrontation but said since they were in the right, they were not deterred. After the suspect fled, Mr. Kavee called emergency number 191 to report, and patrol officers arrived shortly after, staying on site until morning.

Mr. Kavee added that security will be heightened going forward. During the day, a lighter guard will be maintained, while he will take charge at night, staying in front of the abbot’s residence and patrolling the temple grounds with officers.

However, all religious activities will continue as usual, as the abbot wishes to maintain normal monastic duties. The temple gates will remain open at night to allow community access, with increased security measures coordinated with authorities.
