The Second Army Region explained that a 20-year-old private lost contact after authorized leave and was found dead at Suratham Phithak Camp. An investigation is underway, and autopsy results are awaited.
On 13 Sep 2026, the Second Army Region issued a statement regarding the discovery of a deceased soldier on base. Yesterday (12 Sep) at 13:30, they received a report from the 3rd Security Battalion (3rd Sec Bn) about the death of Private Thitikorn, age 20, a conscript from the 2/69 intake assigned to the Security Company.
The incident occurred when personnel from the 23rd Artillery Battalion, 6th Artillery Regiment (6th Arty Regt, 23rd Bn) went to collect forest products behind the welfare coffee shop of the 3rd Security Battalion at Suratham Phithak Camp, Mueang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, and found the deceased hanging from a tree. They immediately reported to the duty officer and commanding officers. The unit then coordinated with police investigators and relevant authorities to examine the scene in accordance with legal procedures.
Preliminary checks with the soldier’s unit revealed that Private Thitikorn had approved leave from 1–10 Sep 2026 to return to his hometown in Na Chaluai District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. However, he did not return to report to the unit as scheduled. The unit contacted his family, who confirmed he had left to return to the base. The family tried to reach him via phone, close contacts, and other means but failed. Eventually, his body was found. Interviews with supervisors and colleagues showed no signs of conflict, violence, or physical abuse.
Currently, the unit has sent the body for autopsy at the forensic department of Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital to thoroughly determine the cause of death. The fact-finding and timeline reconstruction are ongoing as authorities gather evidence, with no definitive conclusions yet. The unit has informed the deceased’s family, who are traveling from Ubon Ratchathani Province to the hospital to await the autopsy results.
The Second Army Region expressed deepest condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased soldier. It confirmed full cooperation with police and all relevant parties to conduct a straightforward, thorough, and fair investigation. The unit also pledged to provide full support and assistance to the family according to government regulations and benefits. The final cause of death will be determined by official forensic examination and investigation results, which the Second Army Region will announce accordingly.
