A woman from Korat went missing and was found murdered in Taiwan. Her family appeals to the government to help bring her ashes and belongings back to her hometown and demands compensation.

Today (21 September 2026), Mr. Siwasek Sinthoram, Phimai District Chief, updated that the district is actively assisting the family, as the victim was a Thai national harmed abroad resulting in death. Legal protections apply, and the provincial justice office has investigated. Since this is a criminal offense committed outside the kingdom, the embassy must coordinate regarding legal claims or demands for damages caused by the violation leading to death.
The family must coordinate with the embassy or consulate on how to proceed legally as victims seeking compensation. Meanwhile, Thai authorities will coordinate with the provincial justice office to support the deceased’s family, who are poor and orphaned, living with relatives in Phimai District. The district will work with relevant agencies to assist the victim's family.
A cousin of the deceased revealed, “She was an only child; both parents have passed away. Usually, she lived mainly in Bangkok and contacted only me among relatives. When she came to Phimai District, she contacted me first. She had returned to Thailand about a year ago. She told me she rented a condo, likely near Bangkok, with a lease until 2027. She left the lease active. Her boyfriend was Korean, who would pick her up. She traveled back and forth frequently.
However, the Taiwanese man was different from her Korean boyfriend. She usually liked traveling abroad and had lived there for 10 years with her Korean boyfriend, though it’s unclear if they had broken up. On 2 September, she lost contact, which was unusual since she normally replied within two days and was always on her phone, updating social media constantly. I tried calling but couldn’t reach her.
We then asked for help from Korean contacts to announce her missing. Later, her Korean boyfriend contacted my sister in Nakhon Pathom to ask if the deceased had returned to Thailand. My sister said no. He then asked if they had argued or lost contact; he said they hadn’t communicated for about five days. I kept trying to message her and followed the news closely.
Then, a local official from the municipality or village head informed us around 9 to 10 a.m., saying, 'Please be strong.' This made me immediately sense something terrible had happened—that she was found dead in Taipei, Taiwan, not Korea as initially thought. Importantly, she never told relatives she had traveled to Taiwan.”
Regarding the deceased’s assets, they are believed to be quite valuable, as she had saved several baht worth of gold, cash, and luxury brand items. Some assets are likely in Bangkok, and some were with her in Taiwan. Authorities are handling the matter and coordinating to bring her ashes and remains back to Thailand.
As for the assets in Taiwan, the family wants to recover everything. They also want to know if, in cases where a suspect or perpetrator is involved, relatives can claim compensation or damages from the offender, and how to proceed. The family intends to personally consult and submit a claim at the Department for the Protection and Welfare of Thais Abroad at the Chaeng Watthana Government Complex in Bangkok to inquire about legal options and how to seek compensation from the perpetrator.”
