Captain of Khon Kaen United Recovers After Losing Consciousness On Field Club Confirms No Protest Against Referee

"Wasusivikij," captain of Khon Kaen United, has regained consciousness and can now communicate after a heavy collision caused him to lose consciousness mid-air. The team manager revealed that the club’s board of directors does not intend to file a protest against the referee, while the opposing player called to apologize, stressing it was a normal football incident.,

The incident occurred during the BYD SEAL 5 League 2 2026/27 season, matchday 8, on 25 October 2026, when Khon Kaen United hosted Muang Loei United and won 4-2. During the game, "Ex" Wasusivikij Phusirit, the home team captain, suffered a severe facial collision with an opposing player, causing him to lose consciousness mid-air and collapse on the field, alarming teammates and fans. The medical team quickly administered first aid and CPR before rushing him to Rajaphruek Hospital for urgent care.

At 15:00 on 26 October 2026, "Mix" Khajornsak Singkhot, manager of Khon Kaen United, updated that Wasusivikij was struck in the face—likely by a shoulder or elbow—causing him to lose consciousness mid-air and then hit the ground, remaining unconscious for nearly two minutes. The match continued during this time as the referee had not yet stopped play.

Khajornsak added that the captain is now fully conscious and has been resting in the hospital since the night of the incident under close observation. He is scheduled for a CT scan and additional X-rays for safety. A phone conversation that morning confirmed Wasusivikij could communicate normally, greatly easing concerns among teammates and coaching staff.

Regarding the referee’s decision, the Khon Kaen United manager explained that although the club could formally protest, after discussions with senior management, they decided against it. However, he noted that in head collisions, which are life-threatening, referees should immediately stop play to allow medical assistance, rather than letting the game continue, as delays could lead to severe consequences. This concern has been raised with the match commissioner and referee assessors.

Additionally, on the morning of the same day, the secretary of Madam Pang Nualphan Lamsam, president of the Football Association of Thailand, contacted the club to express concern and provided 20,000 baht in compensation to Wasusivikij.

On the opposing side, Khajornsak revealed that the Muang Loei United player personally sent an apology message, affirming no intent to harm. The player’s family and "Boss Ek," owner of Muang Loei United, also called to apologize sincerely and express genuine concern.

At 17:00, "Coach Man" Thana Chananabut, head coach of Muang Loei United, visited Wasusivikij, known as "Captain Mac," bringing a gift basket and offering encouragement. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, with both sides discussing the incident amicably and without tension.

Wasusivikij, speaking from his hospital bed, described the incident: he saw the opposing player about to clear the ball but was focused on the ball himself and did not see the other player before the collision. He regarded it as a 50-50 situation and an accident inherent to football.

Regarding his injury status, Captain Mac stated that he underwent CT scans and general X-rays with good news from doctors: no fractures or breaks in the neck and no brain bleeding. A minor fracture at the tip of the nose was found, likely an old injury from a recent football cup match earlier in the week. He left the decision to protest the referee’s conduct to the club and thanked fans and supporters for their concern. He said he is feeling much better and ready to fight to return to training soon.

Coach Man expressed relief at Captain Mac’s recovery, noting that after the match, the opposing player had sent apologies through him to Wasusivikij. Reviewing slow-motion footage confirmed it was an unavoidable football incident. He believes both athletes understand which moments are part of the game and that there was no intent to injure.

"During the 90 minutes on the field, everyone is passionate and fights hard for victory, but when the final whistle blows, everyone returns to being friends and brothers. Accidents can happen, but after today’s discussion, both sides fully understand each other and hold no grudges," Coach Man concluded.
