Head-on Collision: Covered Pickup Truck Crosses Lane, Hits Cattle Truck 73-Year-Old Herdsman Dies, Pregnant Cow Killed Under Wreckage

A tragic accident occurred when a covered pickup truck veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a cattle truck. The 73-year-old herdsman died at the scene, three others were seriously injured, and a pregnant cow was killed beneath the wreckage. Police are urgently investigating the cause of the crash.

At 06:00 on 1 Nov 2026, Police Lieutenant Colonel Wutthipong Panalad, an investigator at Phutthaisong Police Station, Phutthaisong District, Buriram Province, received reports of a head-on pickup truck collision with multiple injured trapped inside. Rescue units from Sawang Channyatham Buriram, Phutthaisong and Kumueang stations were dispatched urgently with cutting equipment to assist.

The accident occurred on a two-lane road, the Phutthaisong–Nong Song Hong route, near Ban Nong Bua Taklai, Village No. 2, Ban Pao Subdistrict, Phutthaisong District. An Isuzu pickup, bronze-gold color, with a rear metal cage modified for cattle transport and Mahasarakham license plates, was found flipped on its side in the middle of the road with severe front-end damage.

Nearby was another Isuzu pickup registered in Bangkok, fitted with a covered cargo box at the rear. Its front was heavily damaged, with airbags deployed on both sides. Also found was a pregnant female cow, about five years old, dead beneath the covered truck.

Rescue workers urgently used cutting tools to extract the body of Boonpeng, 73, a herdsman or cattle trader who was a passenger in the cattle truck, before he died shortly after. Three others seriously injured were given emergency care by officials.

Interviewed, Apichat Noenkluay, 63, a local resident who witnessed the incident, said he was jogging along the roadside when he saw the covered pickup truck coming from Nong Song Hong District, Khon Kaen Province, while the cattle truck was coming the opposite way from Phutthaisong District, Buriram Province.

When both vehicles reached the accident spot, the covered pickup suddenly crossed into the opposite lane and violently collided head-on with the cattle truck, causing a loud crash. The cattle truck lost control and overturned, throwing three cows off. Two cows ran away in panic, while the pregnant cow was struck and died under the vehicle.

Apichat added that the cattle truck carried three people: one male driver, the deceased man seated front, and a woman riding in the back seat. The covered pickup truck had two passengers, a husband and wife.

Ms. Duangrutai, 31, from Surin Province and wife of the covered pickup driver, said before the accident they had picked up goods from a distribution center in Mueang Khon Kaen District to deliver to convenience stores across the northeastern region.

At the accident site, the vehicle lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding with the cattle truck. She suspects her husband, the driver, may have fallen asleep but the exact cause remains unknown.

Initially, the accident resulted in one death, the 73-year-old herdsman, and three people seriously injured, as well as one pregnant cow killed.

Police are currently examining evidence and interviewing those involved to determine the true cause of the accident before proceeding with legal action.
