The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has fully resumed train services on the Southern Line starting 12 Dec 2025, following the easing of flooding in the southern region and the return of water levels to normal.
On 12 December 2025, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) announced the reopening of the Southern Line after completing repairs to tracks and signaling systems. With the flood situation in the southern region improving and water levels returning to normal, long-distance trains from Bangkok Aphiwat Station to Sungai Kolok and Yala resumed normal operations from 12 December 2025 at 3:00 p.m. onward.
Anan Phonimdaeng, Deputy Governor and Acting Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, revealed that after flooding between Hat Yai and Sungai Kolok and Yala returned to normal, SRT immediately dispatched teams from the Civil Engineering and Signaling and Telecommunications departments to assess the damage. Their focus was on evaluating the stability of embankments at vulnerable points and inspecting the electrical signaling and communication systems affected by the floods along several track sections.
He added that staff were ordered to reinforce embankments, improve ballast layers, check and replace necessary signaling equipment, and thoroughly test all systems to ensure the railway could safely support train operations. This enabled the full reopening of services to comprehensively serve southern residents in both passenger travel and freight transport, which are vital economic lifelines for the region. This restoration is expected to mitigate impacts caused by the temporary suspension of services during the floods.
Finally, the SRT expressed gratitude to passengers and the public for choosing trains as their mode of transport and assured that it will continue to monitor, inspect, and maintain the railway routes to ensure all train operations are safe and meet the highest international standards, providing confidence to service users.
