Multiple Gold Items Missing from Safe at Trang Municipal Pawnshop No Signs of Forced Entry Found

Several gold items, not yet valued, have gone missing from the safe at the Trang Municipal Pawnshop. Initial examination found no signs of forced entry. Police are urgently investigating to expand the case.

At 11:00 a.m. on 6 Jan 2026, Police Lieutenant Mangkon Chaiphet, Deputy Investigator at Mueang Trang Police Station, received a report of missing property from the safe inside the municipal pawnshop in Thap Thiang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Trang Province. After being notified, he reported to his superiors and, accompanied by Dr. Rak Booncharoen, Mayor of Trang Municipality, Police Colonel Phum Banthip, Chief of Mueang Trang Police Station, and Police Colonel Thanawat Sengsui, Chief of the Investigation Division, Trang Provincial Police, coordinated with investigation teams from Mueang Trang Police Station and Trang Provincial Police Crime Suppression Unit, as well as forensic officers, to inspect the scene.

The location is the office building of the municipal pawnshop. In the room where valuables pawned by the public are stored, officials checked inside the safe and found several gold items missing, with the damage value yet to be assessed. Meanwhile, forensic officers have collected latent fingerprints, traces, and other evidence at the scene. Initially, no signs of forced entry were found. Investigators are currently interviewing personnel responsible for managing the pawned valuables in detail.

The reporter further noted that the safe is used to store valuables such as gold, jewelry, and other assets. Two individuals hold keys to the safe. It has been preliminarily confirmed that gold items are missing, while the status of other valuables is still under examination.

The pawnshop regularly conducts random inspections of the stored valuables weekly and monthly, rotating personnel for these checks. The most recent inspection on 12 Dec 2025 confirmed that all valuables were intact before the loss was discovered today.

Meanwhile, the front of the pawnshop has been closed with a steel door, suspending services temporarily. A notice states that the facility will be closed from 6 to 8 Jan 2026 to conduct a three-day inspection of the pawned valuables.

The reporter attempted to contact Dr. Rak Booncharoen, Mayor of Trang Municipality, for comments on the incident but learned he was attending a funeral ceremony and has not yet provided a statement. Further updates will be reported as available.
