Background of Kamnan Yom Phayom Sangthong, candidate for subdistrict administrative organization chief, who was shot dead after the Tha Chamuang Subdistrict Administrative Organization election results in Songkhla Province showed that 61.57% of locals voted to reject all candidates, exceeding the votes received by the other candidate.
A Facebook user posted a photo of the vote count board for the Tha Chamuang Subdistrict Administrative Organization candidates in Unit 1, Constituency 15, Rat Phum District, Songkhla Province. The board showed only two candidate numbers competing, but number 2 was crossed out in red because the candidate had died. The caption read, "The ballot is stronger than bullets. Tha Chamuang Subdistrict Administrative Organization election results, Rat Phum District, Songkhla Province. P.S. Around December 2025." Phayom Sangthong, candidate for subdistrict administrative organization chief, was shot dead. .
An unofficial vote count showed that candidate number 1, Ham Khunsekuea, received 2,913 votes. However, what drew public attention was the number of ballots rejecting all candidates, totaling 6,598 votes, or 61.57%. According to local election rules, if any candidate receives fewer votes than the 'reject all' votes, a new election must be held within seven days.
Regarding this, Thanakrit Nakjarupong, director of the Songkhla Provincial Election Commission Office, stated that a new election schedule will be announced soon for areas where 'reject all' votes were cast. Initially, this includes two locations: Tha Chamuang Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Rat Phum District and Khao Daeng Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Saba Yoi District. All previous candidates are disqualified from running in this new election because the 'reject all' vote is considered a collective rejection of all those candidates.

Phayom Sangthong or “Kamnan Yom” aged 63, was a former subdistrict headman of Tha Chamuang and a candidate for the Tha Chamuang Subdistrict Administrative Organization under the New Power for Tha Chamuang Development team. He was shot dead by unknown assailants while driving on the evening of 19 Dec 2025 on the Ban Phru On–Tha Prang road, Village No.1, Thung Nari Subdistrict, Pa Bon District, Phatthalung Province, near the border with Tha Chamuang Subdistrict.
The investigative teams from Phatthalung and Songkhla provinces, along with the Region 9 police investigation unit, have not yet apprehended the perpetrators. They found evidence that the assailants used a pickup truck with attackers in the rear bed, who shot Kamnan Yom, causing his death, before fleeing the scene.
Police investigation reports also revealed that Kamnan Yom had previously faced opposition from a rival who tried to negotiate him out of running, but Kamnan Yom insisted on candidacy. He even contacted a senior police officer in Region 9 requesting protection, but before assistance could arrive, the shooting occurred.
