Narathiwat Lifts Curfew After Situation Stabilizes

The military announced the lifting of the curfew in Narathiwat after it had been imposed for one day, citing that the situation is now under control. Officials are accelerating efforts to track down the perpetrators.

On 12 Jan 2026 GMT+7, following the case where Major General Yodawut Phuengpak, Commander of the Narathiwat Task Force, announced a curfew prohibiting residents in Narathiwat Province from leaving their homes between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., which began on 11 Jan 2026 GMT+7.

Recently, Major General Yodawut Phuengpak, Commander of the Narathiwat Task Force, issued Announcement No. 30/2569 regarding the cancellation of the increased border control measures and the curfew restricting movement during specified hours, exercising authority under the Martial Law Act of 1914.

The announcement stated that since the Narathiwat Task Force issued a directive on 11 Jan 2026 GMT+7 to intensify border control measures and impose a curfew under the Martial Law Act of 1914 due to threats to the lives and property of local residents caused by insurgent activities, the situation has now become manageable. To alleviate the inconvenience to the public in their daily lives and to promote the province’s economy and tourism, the directive imposing these measures is hereby revoked effective immediately. The announcement was made on 12 Jan 2026 GMT+7 and signed by Major General Yodawut Phuengpak, Commander of the Narathiwat Task Force.

Regarding developments in the case of the perpetrators who planted bombs at five PTT fuel stations across five districts in Narathiwat, security investigation teams have spread out to gather additional evidence. Among the sites, officials collected evidence at the PTT station of Saniya Oil Partnership located in Ban Yangobe Ta, Village No. 4, Chua Subdistrict, Cho Airong District, Narathiwat Province, which was completely damaged, including the fuel station and the 7-Eleven convenience store.

Officials traced blood trails left by some of the perpetrators on the ground inside the fuel station, which extended across the road in front of the station into dense grass that was flattened along a long path, apparently marking the escape route to the opposite road. It is believed this was the point where the perpetrators fled and likely had a vehicle waiting to pick them up after the attack. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to follow these leads and aim to apprehend the suspects.

Simultaneously, the security investigation team has taken the opportunity to question witnesses, including the fuel station guard and other individuals, to collect information for analysis regarding the possible circumstances of the incident.
